TSVA NEWSLETTER 2009-2010 - NO.2 July 30, 2010

Abbreviations: Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB); United States America Volleyball (USAV); National Seniors Games Association (NSGA); Texas Senior Games Association (TSGA); Texas Seniors/Masters Volleyball, Inc., (TS/MV); Texas Senior Volleyball Association (TSVA); Lone Star Region (LSR) which is South TX, Sun Country Region (SUR) which is West TX and North Texas Region (NTR).

CARL’S CORNER: A must, I must get this newsletter started again and do it on time and regularly, it got us started about 16 years ago. We need to thank Margaret Young for her very good volleyball play and food we were provided in July; everything very good. We have found many new players but have not successfully got them on the floor yet. I know out there lies many good volleyball players, we must find them and get them playing. Our TSVA website is up and running again, please it check out.

USA Volleyball (USAV) (www.usavolleyball.org): The games are played, the tournament is over in Phoenix and this is about a month later and I have no reports of winners/losers so I guess we did not score this year. We had very few teams and individual to go. I heard no reports on USAV trying to make you stay in the hotels/motels of their choice for their monetary purpose to which I had bad thoughts. I have checked as to where the 2011 Nationals would be and found they have not decided, but suspected is that Dallas is being considered along with a couple other cities not named to me.

National Senior Games Association (NSGA) (www.nsga.com)

The Senior Olympics Event is to take place in Houston in the month of June, 2011. Teams that participate in this Senior Nationals must qualify in State Games events this year that will qualify you for the Nationals in 2011. The Texas State Games are scheduled in October/November in Houston also. Texas been different, players have to qualify in local TSGA Games or other States Qualifying Event to be eligible for the Nationals.

TEXAS Senior Games Association (TSGA) (www.tsga.org): This organization conducts the qualifying events for the NSGA. Their qualifying rules are many, difficult, crazy, and there were only three qualifying sites to qualify for the State games in Houston this year. They were Bryan/College Station, El Paso, and San Antonio. Considerable time was spent trying to convince the TSGA to make it easy for Texas players to qualify to NO avail, nothing was changed.

BUT… NOW THE STATE GAMES HAVE BEEN SET FOR NOVEMBER 6 & 7 IN HOUSTON. YOU MUST PARTICIPATE IN THIS EVENT OR HAVE YOUR NAME ON THE ROSTER AT LEAST, QUALIFY IN ANOTHER STATE EVENT, OR QUALIFY IN THE HUNTSMAN WORLD EVENT to participate in the 2011 Summer Olympics ALSO BEING CONDUCTED IN HOUSTON in 2011.

TEXAS Senior Volleyball Association (TSVA) (www.tsmvolleyball.org): This organization was established to serve you in 1994. Some ask why our name so close to TSGA, well we had ours first, the TSGA changed several years after we were established. The TSVA conducts volleyball Play Events at about eight sites a year throughout the state. Our sites are Jourdanton, San Antonio, Arlington, Brownwood, Farmers Branch, Waco, Houston, and we begin the season every year with ladies in Lampasas and the men in Lockhart. This year, 2010, we have added Killeen during the month of September. WACO is next on list like August 14, not far from. Then for the first time we go to Killeen to their city Recreation Center, September 11, 2010.

Huntsman World Senior Games (www.seniorgames.net): It is time to get registered for the St George, Utah, games; like September 1 is the deadline. Yes, this EVENT is described as the largest and best-organized annual senior volleyball tournament in the USA. The GAMES will be played October 8 thru 16 in St George.

TEXAS High School (Young Ladies) (www.uil.utexas.edu)

The season is starting again very soon, yes even before school starts. The STATE finals will be played in November at Texas State University, San Marcos, and I look forward to attend. I encourage all to attend some of your local schools, see really good volleyball played by the young ones. I have all I can handle in my locale, 5A thru 2A, i.e., 5A I have the New Braunfels Unicorns, San Marcos, and Seguin; 4A I have New Braunfels Canyon and Smithson Valley, 3A I have Geronimo Navarro, Canyon Lake or Wimberley for 3A. All schools noted for their good teams.
